Here is the set that I made this year for Shambhala Music Festival. This was my 7th year playing in the Fractal Forest (see mix artwork), and it really turned out to be an amazing year with many, many good friends... I worked quite hard on the set this year, and I really hope you guys enjoy it.

For sixteen years our pal Simon Shackleton (or "Shack" as we like to call him) has been writing, recording, remixing and releasing dance tracks under various different pseudonyms (Elite Force, Zodiac Cartel, Dust Bowl, Lunatic Calm and Flicker Noise) for many of the world's finest labels (Lot49, TCR, Kingsize, Thrust Recordings). And few, if any, have done all that with greater success and over a longer period of time than has Shack.

The most recognized of his many aliases, Elite Force, has been celebrated around the globe for his accomplishments in the studio as well as his incendiary live DJ sets. Earlier this year, he received the prestigious Breakspoll award for top producer while his multi-genre label, U&A Recordings, was also recognized by Breakspoll as the very best in the world of breakbeat. In his twenty-one years as a DJ, Elite Force has traveled from Kazakhstan to Australia, London to Tokyo, San Francisco to Black Rock City and all points in between electryfing huge dance crowds at major clubs and international festivals with his signature "bass-driven warehouse music". "Elite Force unites the sometimes warring factions of electro house, techno, and breakbeat, like a peace keeper who values the spirit of cooperation and tolerance", wrote Beatport in 2009. "He was forged in the fires of breakbeat, which has always had a habit of sucking in sounds that pass by. His sets are like a team performance, with tracks coming from all corners of the bass-driven sector, to create a vibrant hodgepodge of boundary-pushing dance music….“

Unbeknownst to many of his fans, Shack's accomplishments as a producer extend far beyond the realm of dance music into film, television and even video games. His music has been the soundtrack for major motion pictures like The Matrix, Emmy-award winning TV shows such as CSI and video games like Playstation's FIFA Soccer. And his recent collaboration with acclaimed film-score composer, Klaus Badelt (Pirates of the Caribbean, Gladiator, X-Men), on the Motorstorm Apocalypse soundtrack is yet another crown jewel in a long and impressive litany of musical exploits.

Since his first pilgrimage to Black Rock City in 2009, Shack has become a good friend to many of us who make our home on the corner of 9:00 and F at Burning Man. And we're thrilled to have him back in the DISTRIKT line-up again in 2011 (you can catch Shack's closing set on the DISTRIKT sound system Wednesday afternoon). Tom Drummond - Ripecast Mix August 2011

We're very excited to be featuring an exclusive RIPEcast this week from NuFunk/House producer Tom Drummond of Perth, Australia. Tom forever endeared himself to The Space Cowboys last year with a track he co-produced with Slynk called 'Cow Bwoy Break' (http://bit.ly/cow-bwoy-break). Since the release of that track, Tom and The Cowboys have become pen pals and at our request, Tom was kind enough to put together this funky and eclectic NuFunk/Hip Hop/Breakbeat/Drum 'n Bass mix for The RIPEcast. A little more background on this week's guest...
Tom Drummond comes out of sunny Perth, Western Australia. Years spent playing to a variety of different crowds has given Drummond an insight into what works on the dance floor. He studied Jazz music at Western Australia’s Academy of Performing Arts, playing in various funk and hip-hop groups during his college years. And he has supported acts like The Bamboos, TZU and Katalyst, all of which have had a major influence on Drummond's style.

As a producer, Drummond's tracks have been picked up for digital, vinyl and CD release by underground funky-house and breaks labels such as Good Groove, Bombstrikes and Cold Busted and have been played by the likes of Krafty Kuts, A Skillz and Featurecast. As a DJ, Drummond's live sets are rarely restricted to any one genre. Hip hop, funk, breaks, drum n bass, dubstep and house music are all thrown into the mix as long as those tracks fit the criteria: "funky, good-time, party beats that will put a smile on your face".
