After a one-year Burning Man hiatus, I am excited to be heading back to the playa this year with my good friends at DISTRIKT. I'll be spending a lot of time with my beloved Space Cowboys too over at 4:45 and Esplanade. Dear Friends, I'm totally psyched to be sharing this mix with you. In the last year I've been (almost) all over the world performing, introducing people to this sound. The response has been overwhelming, and it seems like every new gig I travel to now has an even more electric atmosphere than the last. I've always been highly selective of the music I play, in an effort to define something new and distinct, and I feel now that this style is getting the recognition it deserves.

So it's not often I do a mix, and this time I really wanted to showcase the state of the art of psychedelic tech-funk. Cut La Roc - FREE Breaks Edits

Lee Potter, aka Cut La Roc, made his name in the hurly-burly big beat days of the late 90s. Signed to Skint Records, the same label as Norman ‘Fatboy’ Cook, he was responsible for pioneering the big beat sound worldwide alongside Midfield General, Bentley Rhythm Ace and Fatboy Slim himself. Assorted tracks and remixes of his were signed to tons of compilations, Lee seeing a change within the music industry decided to start his own label Rockstar Recordings where he started to gather a tidy roster of artists on Rockstar – Parker, Funkanomics, Pixel Fist, 601, Ben & Lex etc – and also started the Rocstar DJ agency to service the dance scene with DJ bookings.

.....Many thanks for taking the time to do this interview. For anyone out there that doesn't know about you guys please tell us a little bit about yourselves and how you became Fort Knox Five.

We have all been good friends for a long time. Rob and Steve grew up together in Washington, DC. They have been friends and band mates since childhood. Sid was Steve’s room mate at RISD. After University, They both moved back to DC. The three were involved in the DC indiepunk scene in the 90s. Around that time JonH came into the picture. It was the heyday of the now defunct DC rave scene in the mid 90’s where we honed our dj skills. Steve, Sid, and Rob formed Thunderball (ESL Music) by the late 90’s. JonH and Steve had a club music project called JonH and Raskal. Rob was performing and recording with Thievery Corporation as their sitar & guitar player. When the four of us got together in the studio and combined all of our musical influences, that is when Fort Knox Five was born......
